Practical examples

The team reviewed the schedule and approved the revised sequence of activities. In a formal summary, this could become: the team's review led to approval of the revised sequence. The noun forms allow the process and its outcome to be discussed as connected concepts. However, removing the team from the sentence would also remove useful information about responsibility. Nominalisation is helpful when it organises ideas, but less helpful when it conceals who acted. The choice should depend on what the reader needs to understand or do next.
