Text and translation

After a lengthy delay, someone may remark, "Well, that was quick," intending the opposite of the literal statement. The contrast with the situation makes an ironic interpretation plausible. In writing, however, the absence of tone can leave room for misunderstanding. A professional response need not imitate the irony to acknowledge the frustration. It can recognise the delay, explain the current position and state the next step directly. Context helps us interpret the remark, while clarity helps us move beyond it.
