When a colleague says, "That is an ambitious timetable," the words alone do not establish whether the comment is praise or concern. The interpretation depends partly on what has just been discussed and how the speaker continues. A reference to limited resources would make a cautionary reading more plausible. A description of careful preparation might support a more positive reading. Rather than attributing a hidden motive, we can ask which aspect of the timetable the speaker has in mind. Clarification turns an uncertain implication into something that can be discussed explicitly.
